Ohio Improvement Process

School Improvement is designed to improve educational outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities and at risk learners. The focus of the State Support Team (SST) in Region 3 is to provide technical support to school districts that are focused on improving student achievement. Ohio’s Statewide System for School Improvement Support emphasizes a collaborative partnership in which members of the State Support Team (SST) engage with the District Leadership Team (DLT) in a dialogue that is based on the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) Framework.

The OIP process brings together all the data, resources, knowledge, and experience in planning and follows a four-stage cycle that is guided by State Support Team consultants. The four stages are:

  • Stage 1: Identification of critical needs of districts and schools
  • Stage 2: Develop a focused plan
  • Stage 3: Implement and monitor the focused plan, and
  • Stage 4: Evaluate the improvement process

Ohio Leadership Advisory Council

Leadership matters!  Responding to this need, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) formed the Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC) in March 2007. This partnership brought together distinguished leaders from across the state, representing diverse perspectives and roles, to begin tackling the challenge of what it means to be a leader and the knowledge and skills it takes to successfully lead.

The Ohio Leadership Advisory Council was created to examine how a leadership “system” for educators could be developed that reaches from top to bottom across all levels. This system, which includes superintendents, principals and teachers, would affect every level of Ohio’s educational enterprise–from the state, to the district, school building and classroom.

The Ohio Leadership Advisory Council has released their new online professional development modules.  They are available at the Council’s website.  The Ohio Leadership Development Framework, online assessments, and professional development modules are designed to be easy to use and accessed by all Ohio superintendents and district and building leadership team members.  These free resources help users understand how a cohesive leadership development system guides decision-making to improve instructional practices and student performance.
